It really depends on what your VAFC was tuned to. Usually with VAFC tuning, you would want to lower the VTEC engagement point and also lean out the a/f across the whole rpm band, as the stock honda ecu runs the car rich from the factory. Now, if that was how your VAFC was tuned for, then removing it and just running off your stock Honda ecu, would cause you to consume more fuel. It has nothing to do with resetting your ecu because once you remove the VAFC, there is nothing to intercept the signals from the map sensor and alter them. That's how the VAFC works, it incepts signals from the MAP sensor and modifies it before sending it to the ECU. Resetting your ecu would be useless, as you ecu would calculate the STFT (short term fuel trim) and LTFT (long term fuel trim) and still revert to stock ecu settings because you no longer have a VAFC.

Hi,

Not sure on how ECU works
But I heard that most newer car is running close loop system.
Having said that, the ECU will ignore the VAFC setting and run it base on what the sensore pick up as "best" option.
So how does VAFC help in this case since the car ignore the VAFC setting?

Only when you floor the peddle then will the engine run "open" loop setting.
This setting will then take instruction from the VAFC thus maxisizing on the power band.

Do correct me if i'm wrong, still trying to learn now..
Kindly advise..

You are partially right, but I think you're a little mislead about how the VAFC works. If you don't have a VAFC then the ecu will negate any bolt ons that you have and it will always recalculate (even after you reset the ecu) and revert to stock maps. The VAFC, intercepts the signals from the map sensor and modifies it and then sends it to the ecu. If you have a VAFC or any type of piggyback controller, your ecu will always read modified signals from that unit and will perform according to the settings in the piggyback.
